Eating Our Way Through 2015: The Second Annual Envy Awards

2015 envys

Wow, what a tasty year it’s been! I guess you could say we’ve savored a little bit of everything: from exploring Miami’s never-ending (and oh-so-delectable) dining options to spending days at a time noshing it up at food festivals (SOBEWFF!), to journeying plate by plate through amazing locales — New York City, Washington, D.C., the Florida Keys, Caribbean and Kentucky Bourbon Trail included. We even took out time to focus on healthy eats, celebrate festive holidays, and share a variety of family recipes along the way.

One particularly exciting highlight of the year was when Order Envy joined Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. Be sure to follow us!

It sure was difficult choosing our favorite foodie experiences this year. It’s a hard job, but somebody’s gotta do it (wink, wink). Nevertheless, here are the 2015 Envys, our annual collection of awards in recognition of our favorite bites of the year. Congrats to all the winners — and happy eating in 2016!

Outstanding “Eating Our Way Through” Travel Experience
and the Envy goes toNEW YORK CITY

“My Top 5 Bites in New York City: Veal Parm from John’s of 12th Street, Soup Dumplings from Joe’s Shanghai, Pepperoni Pizza from Grimaldi’s, Tiramisu from Grotto Azzurra Ristorante, and the Everything Bagel Board from Russ & Daughters Café.”

Most Memorable Miami Spice Experience
and the Envy goes toPUBBELLY

“The incredibly attentive service from the staff throughout the night was rivaled only by the insanely flavorful, exquisitely presented and expertly crafted fare dished out of the kitchen.”

Phenomenal Reason to Spend an Entire Day Eating and Drinking
and the Envy goes toSOBEWFF GRAND TASTING VILLAGE

“It was an incredible day: a diverse bounty of food samples by local South Florida chefs; free-flowing pours of wine, beer and any other spirit you can imagine; plus kitchen demos by Food Network’s celebrity chefs (Rachael Ray, Emeril Lagasse and Guy Fieri included).”

Extraordinarily Authentic Pizza That Tastes Like It Came from Naples
and the Envy goes toSTANZIONE 87

“I’ve gone back to this joint now three times (I thought I may have hallucinated how wonderful these pies were the first and second time around), and each time I leave raving it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had … outside of Naples, Italy.”

Remarkable Seafood That Was Most Likely Swimming in the Ocean That Same Day
and the Envy goes toORIGINAL MARATHON SEAFOOD FESTIVAL

“As a lover of seafood, I was in heaven. I’m talking about plump raw oysters on the half shell and flash-fried dolphin (the fish, not Flipper) that boasted the ideal amount of breading without totally masking the taste of the white, flaky fish. … Then there were the stone crabs, which can be described in two words: simply divine.”

Astounding Exotic Eats That Transport You Across Continents
and the Envy goes toBOMBAY DARBAR

“Once we sat down inside the tastefully bedecked space, we were immediately captivated — by our cordial and obliging server, by the looks of the dishes atop our neighbors’ table, and by the wafts of peppery goodness emanating from the kitchen.”

yardbird5

Exceptionally Elevated Fried Green Tomatoes
and the Envy goes toYARDBIRD SOUTHERN TABLE & BAR

“Then came the Fried Green Tomato ‘BLT’ ($14, with pork belly, tomato jam and house-made pimento cheese), which was perfection in the form of an appetizer. This dish earned some major points in my tasting book, mainly because the crispy exterior didn’t fall off the supple tomatoes after being fried.”

garlic16

Marvelous Excuse for Having Bad Breath
and the Envy goes toDELRAY BEACH GARLIC FEST

“Dubbed ‘The Best Stinkin’ Party in Town,’ this lively fest packed in a plethora of local merchant vendors, live bands, carnival-style rides, cooking demos and free wine tasting (cheers to Cupcake Vineyards!). But for me, the highlight of the entire day came in the form of three words: garlic ice cream.”

federal3

Distinguished Biskit That’s So Good You Don’t Care It’s Spelled with a “K”
and the Envy goes toTHE FEDERAL FOOD, DRINK & PROVISIONS

“Imagine the fluffiest, cheesiest, sweetest (see: honey-apple cider glaze) buttermilk pillow from heaven — simply divine.”

holiday brunch5

Super Impressive Special Occasion Meal Prepared in the Order Envy Kitchen
and the Envy goes to2015 CHRISTMAS BRUNCH

“We hosted an early Christmas brunch with my side of the family last week, and everyone raved about all three of these recipes. The chocolate croissants were super easy, the shrimp and cheddar grits served as the ideal hearty-yet-light entrée, while the red velvet trifle stole the dessert show.”
