As the oldest watering hole in Miami, Tobacco Road holds a special place in the hearts of local bargoers. It’s one of the first joints we walked over to in Brickell upon moving here. And that’s why we were all dismayed when it eventually fell (literally, the building was demolished) to the impending construction storm of Brickell City Centre. Fortunately for those dive-bar-loving, bar-food-eating, live-music-dancing fans, Tobacco Road, according to Miami New Times, plans to reopen in 2016 just a few steps away from its former digs.

We got the opportunity to check out the new space (it’s nothing more than bare floors and walls at the moment, barring the salvaged package store neon sign) last weekend during the 15th Annual Crawfish Boil & Seafood Fest. It was a steamer of a late-spring day, but the cold beer, plump mudbugs courtesy of Lauderhill’s New Orleans-inspired restaurant Rosey Baby, and chargrilled oysters from one of our faves The River Seafood & Oyster Bar (read our restaurant review here) brought their own heat. Not to mention the Eric Vick Band and DJ Oski, who provided the day’s cool tunes.
