SOBEWFF Farm to Table Brunch

The Palms Hotel & Spa
It all happened so fast: I was waiting in line to enter the SOBEWFF Grand Tasting Village when two celebrity chefs, Marcus Samuelsson and Ludo Lefebvre, bum-rushed me, presenting two free tickets to a SOBEWFF brunch event. Next thing I know, I’m frantically texting my friend Lauren, a fellow food fanatic, who dashed up from the Florida Keys the following morning to accompany me to the chic, mid-morning affair hosted by Chef Geoffrey Zakarian (a recurring guest judge on Chopped) and local Miami gal Julie Frans.
You can call us the ladies who brunch — and did we ever that day. Yes, there were endless flutes of Trump Winery’s sparkling wine and a plethora of brunch dishes inspired by locally sourced ingredients — from stone crab salad to tuna tartare and an exquisite beet salad. But if we’re being honest, we’d have to admit the most exciting aspect of the day was mingling with the distinguished chefs in attendance. Chef Chris Cosentino served us our first tasting of tripe (pretty tasty by the way, considering his accompanying spicy sauce!). Chef Marc Murphy (also a guest judge on Chopped) warmly welcomed us with fluffy broccoli frittata. We even ran into one of my favorite South Florida restaurateurs, Chef Michael Schwartz (the genius behind The Genuine Hospitality Group), who graciously snapped a photo with me over small talk.
A superbly intimate experience, especially when compared to the SOBEWFF Grand Tasting Village (you can see our photo gallery here), the Farm to Table brunch was, as Chef Schwartz put it, “the perfect ending to such a great SOBEWFF weekend.”
